Daydream Cycle - Underwater Kite Album (video of 'Avenue')

Philippines, the year 2000: What started out as toying with a drum machine and an electric guitar soon turned into a fusion of un-categorically beautiful music.

As Japs Sergio and Bogs Jugo started to create drum beats, samples, ambient guitar riffs and bass lines for a few months, they soon realized that the music they were making was missing one element - a voice. Only upon hearsay that she sings and writes songs did they invite Kathy Meneses to add lyrics and melody to their music. She would then become their words. At this point you could not call them a band - not yet. In the summer of 2001, a self-titled debut album was made with 12 tracks of pure electronic dreampop.Surreal in this lying world, as Kathy sang. To be able to perform live and to have a more fluid sound they asked Jerome Velasco and Dok Sergio, both members of the band, Teeth, to join the lineup. Daydream Cycle was born with Kathy Meneses on vocals, Japs Sergio on rhythm guitars, Jerome Velasco on lead guitars, Dok Sergio on bass guitar, and Bogs Jugo as the beat programmer. That same year, DDC was nominated for the In The Raw award at the NU107 Rock Awards.

DDC paved the way for its members to be included in other bands as well - Kathy (Squid9, Wolfmann+), Japs (Rivermaya), Dok, Bogs & Jerome (the Mongols). Together, the five have been steadily playing gigs around Manila for four years armed with songs ready to soothe anyone's mind.

In early 2003, DDC signed briefly with the San Francisco-based indie label, Shelflife Records. They released one song in the label's anniversary compilation album, You're Still Young At Heart, where Shelflife artists do covers of other Shelflife artists' songs.

Four years after the release of their self titled debut album, they are now out with their much awaited 2nd album, Underwaterkite. With all five minds contributing to the album expect this one to be more surreal than ever. Wallow in your ethereal daydreams. Welcome to Dreamland.

Some refer to their sound as dreampop, for others it's indiepop, and for some even electronic. You'd also hear words from fans and listeners like ethereal and sublime, much like how most daydreams are, at least, in our closest approximation. However, we say good music is good music and we'll leave it to your interpretation but one thing's for sure, with Underwaterkite, you'll feel like your floating on air, sonic, lilting soundscapes enveloping your surroundings and your mind. Featuring the hypnotic single "Roses and Cadillacs" and 17 more tracks of pleasure and delight plus 3 bonus tracks.
