In their previous albums, they popularized a lot of revival songs. "Waiting in Vain" and "Tell Me Where It Hurts" were my personal favorites. I liked Chin's playful guitar strokes for the former, while the rendition of Juris for the latter was truly earnest.

But I wasn't so keen about their original singles like "A Little Bit" and "Talaga Naman." These two songs were great hits, but they're quite juvenile for my taste.

Until I heard "Now."

The carrier single of their recently-released album, which has the same title, is breezy and gratifying to listen to. Cebu's pride Cattski Espina's straightforward lyrics and Juris's clear voice can hit a listener right to the core.

Another original piece of the group is "Wish List," which will surely land the top 10 charts come Christmas. One thing to note here is Juris's treatment of the song, it is quite intense.

"Missing You" is another gem in the album. The arrangement did not deviate that much from John Waite's, except for the guitar intrusion in some portions of the song, which added some character and became a good contrast to the melodic voice of the vocalist.

If you want to hear the country version of Heart's "These Dreams," Madonna's "Cherish," and Paula Abdul's "Rush, Rush," this album has them. Pay attention to the brief guitar intro for the songs, the apt description is striking.

In addition, the male back-up on "These Dreams" is a nice touch. "Cherish" and "Rush, Rush" have a much slower and more relaxed tempo.

Pretender's "Human," Step's "Make It Easy On Me," and Restless Heart's "When She Cries," which is the only track of Chin in the album, can be perfect company while driving.

When you're in a senti mood, switch to "Baby Don't You Break My Heart Slow," a Vonda Shepard song, and "Set You Free," an original of Side A. The latter was personally hand picked by Juris, and she gave a soulful female version for the song.

And if you like a less-edgy and more laid-back interpretation of "Impulsive," which was popularized by Wilson Phillips in the early ‘90s, then you will enjoy the duo's version.

As a whole, M.Y.M.P. "Now" is more adventurous in terms of their cuts selection, more mature on their sound, and more distinct when it comes to their brand of music.

In an interview last August 15, Chin told PEP: "Parang nalaman na namin kung ano ang direksiyon namin. Kasi yung mga dating albums namin, halo-halo, may alternative...hindi namin alam kung saan papunta. Ngayon alam na namin kung saan kami papunta."

He's right.

Bamboo’s fourth album “Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday” is a huge leap from their past albums. Short but sweet, the band’s ever-evolving musical style never fails to please. The record kicks off with “Kalayaan”, a very melodic (and nationalistic) song which would remind you of Bamboo’s early days with Rivermaya or 90’s OPM in general. “Blown Away” denotes the band’s familiarity with mellow materials; which was extended until the third track “Little Child.” In contrast, “Kailan” can lift you up anytime; think of a more sophisticated “Hallelujah.” Its music video is just as good:



“Nobody Knows” is yet another jazz-y/emotional song from Bamboo. You can clearly notice the strong guitar solos in this song. Songs “24/7” and “Last Days On A Cruise Ship” on the other hand, are like Bamboo’s hangover from We Stand Alone Together album. The two are honest, but I find them a little softer against Bamboo’s previous repertoire.

It’s always nice to listen to light rock with several reggae notes, such as the song “Wake Up Call.” Another Tagalog song, “Muli” is a fine hybrid of powerful lyrics and featherlike music. Last but not the least, “Looking Out For Number One” is more on the blues-y or crossover side. Its Jimi Hendrix-like intro is very catchy indeed.

Rapper Alfamega from Grand Hustle's recording company has just released a music video in order to promote his brand new single called "Uh Huh". The star makes a step-out appearance with co-CEO of the Grand Hustle, rap star T.I. on the song. Besides that, DJ Drama, who is best known for his mixtapes work, also contributes his song-writing credit on the track. "Uh Huh" is scheduled to be listed on Alfamega's debut album entitled "I Am Alfamega", which will be dropped to the market on October 14.

The music video starts with Alfamega buying gasoline for his blue car. Then, he with a sexy young woman, who is sitting next to him on the passenger seat, drive around the town, followed by his friends, driving different cars. Some scenes show a crowd of people staring at the rapper, who is doing his rapping thing on the sidewalk of a town. Some of the people in the crowd are pretty much carried away with his song so they share some dancing performance with the rapper.

Singer Katharine McPhee has just premiered a music video to support her brand new single titled "I Know What Boys Are". The song is among comedy movie "The House Bunny" soundtracks and features backing vocals by Emma Stone and Kiely Williams, who also play in the film.

Together with other movie casts, such as Emma, Rumer Willis, and Anna Faris, Katharine who also co-stars in the movie, will drop by MTV's Total Request Live this Wednesday, August 20 to introduce the single and promote the film. The video starts with girls performance on a stage. Some scenes show a crowd of people watching a dance performance by the girls, while the rest mostly carries the movie plot to complete the mission of promoting the film to the public before hitting the theater on August 22.

Four years ago when Soul Siren Nina recorded the song "I Don’t Want To Be Your Friend" for a compilation called "Diane Warren Presents: Love Songs," she didn’t realize at that time she’d be later doing a full-length album of cover songs from the rich catalogue of the so-called "Queen of the Ballad."

Fast forward and Nina is bringing to her fans her renditions of very familiar love songs written by the world-class songwriter ‘who has never been in love and does not enjoy dating.’

Last Tuesday, the sultry singer launched the tribute-album "Nina Sings The Hits of Diane Warren," treating the press with a minus one performance of songs off the album track list.

"Forte ko rin ang love songs kahit papaano kaya nakaka-relate ako sa mga kanta ni Diane Warren," she replied when asked on how important is the album’s theme to her artistry.

She elaborated, "Medyo naging okay ang pag-record ko kasi what we did was actually rearrange the songs to fit my type of singing, like kunwari rock song, ginawa naming ballad."

A couple of songs from the selections were originally done by rock bands, including the carrier single "I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing" which Steven Tyler and the rest of Aerosmith popularized as themse song for the movie "Armageddon. "

This latest album from Nina is strictly a compilation of famous numbers that ring a bell by their titles alone. It includes "I Turn To You" (Christina Aguilera), "There You’ll Be" (Faith Hill), "Love Will Lead You Back (Taylor Dane), How Do I Live (LeAnn Rimes), "When I See You Smile" (Bad English), "Un-Break My Heart (Toni Braxton) and "Because You Loved Me (Celine Dion).

As expected, the choice cuts were re-delivered within Nina’s vocal range and style, thus, creating a coherent laid-back pop engagement blessed with good melodies only a gifted songwriter like Warren could provide.

When asked if doing covers is more fulfilling for her, considering that she was able to score a hit in "Someday" (penned by ex-flame Nyoy Volante), she reasoned, "Pareho lang po kasi it’s fulfilling to sing any song, whether a cover song or an original. The fact that I am singing is fulfilling."

Via phonepatch Nina was able to talk to the 51-year old recipient of her tribute set who, as a way of acknowledging the effort, posted a message on the sleeve. It says: "A few years ago Nina cut ‘I Don’t Want To Be Your Friend’, one of my favorite songs. I am very happy that she is now coming out with an entire album filled with the songs that I’m proud of. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a lot of hits together."

The celebrated song is the last cut in the 15-song offering, preceeded by ""I Could Not Ask For More" which Nina singled out as her most favorite among Warren’s creations.

Another Warren revival, "I Love You Goodbye" was released as a single from the "Nina Live!" album.

Completing the track roster are "Ill Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me)," Blue Eyes Blue," How Can We Be Lovers," and "Saving Forever For You."

Some other Warren hits that are not part of the album are "Lonely Is The Night" (Air Supply), "Blame It On The Rain" (Milli Vanilli), "I Don’t Wanna Live Without Your Love (Chicago), movie soundtracks "If You Asked Me To" and "Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now" and that piece famously revived by local duo MYMP called "Tell Me Where It Hurts."
